About the Juliusz Schauder Prize for young mathematicians
The competition purpose is to promote achievements of the Polish science in the field of nonlinear analysis and to support young researchers in this field.
According to the rules of the competition:
- The award is an individual prize awarded to young scientists of Polish citizenship without doctorate or who completed their PhD not more than five years ago. Candidates for the competition may be nominated by members of the Scientific Council of the Center or other scientific authorities. Subsequent editions of the competition are carried out not more frequently than every two years.
- Awarding the prize is based on original scientific papers or monographs in the field of nonlinear analysis published in peer-reviewed journals (at least online).
- The application should consist of a cover letter regarding the candidate and the competition work (or works) and should be sent to the following address:

The deadline for submitting candidates in the 2nd edition of the competition is December 31, 2022.
- The awardee is chosen by the jury appointed by the Scientific Council of the Center and consisted of:

Marek Galewski (Technical University of Łódź)
Piotr Kalita (Jagiellonian University)
Jarosław Mederski (Polish Academy of Sciences)
- The date of announcement of the result of the 2nd edition of the competition – May 31, 2023.
- The winner of the competition receives a prize in the form of:
a. a diploma confirming the prize and a financial bonus in the amount determined by the Scientific Council of the Center,
b. an invitation to participate, at the expense of the Center, in the J. P. Schauder Medal and the J. P. Schauder Prize ceremony and in the scientific event associated with this ceremony,
c. an invitation to deliver a plenary lecture devoted to the achievements underlying the award.
Decision of the jury of the first edition of the competition for the Juliusz Schauder Prize for young mathematicians
The jury of the first edition of the competition for the Juliusz Schauder Prize for young mathematicians decided to award the Prize to
(CNRS and LAGA, Université Sorbonne Paris Nord)
for achievements in studying the dynamics of nonlinear partial differential equations that were published between 2017 and 2020 in the series of five publications.
J. Jendrej constructs and studies the asymptotic behavior of (multi-)solitons in nonlinear critical wave and Schrödinger equations, which gave answers/confirmations to known hypotheses from front-end research. His advanced constructions involve methods from many different fields of mathematics, including use of approximation techniques, variational structure of equations or energy estimates. An important role is also played by the nontrivial application of topological arguments coming from fixed point theory. In Juliusz Schauder Center Jury’s opinion the papers constitute a significant contribution in the very active field of dispersive partial differential equations. The results show erudition and potential of the Awardee as well as point out further perspectives for research that he continues in collaboration with both renowned mathematicians and younger researchers.
Taking into account the very high level of submitted applications, the jury together with the Director of the Center decided to establish additional distinctions in the competition:
- For Maciej Starostka (Gdańsk University of Technology) – First Distinction,
- For Wojciech Górny (Warsaw University) and Marcin Sroka (Jagiellonian University) – Second Distinction.
The Prize and distinctions are planned to be handed over during a joint ceremony with the awarding of the J. P. Schauder Medal on June 5, 2021, where Jacek Jendrej will deliver a lecture.
