Our mission
Juliusz P. Schauder Center for Nonlinear Studies was founded in 1991 at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The center's mission is supporting mathematical research in the field of nonlinear analysis and its applications as well as intiating scientific relations between different research communities.
The current main activities are the following:
- publishing a high class scientific journal TOPOLOGICAL METHODS IN NONLINEAR ANALYSIS,
- awarding a J. P. Schauder medal for scientific achievements and contributios to nonlinear anaysis (including the appointment of a medal jury),
- organizing lectures, conferences and scientific workshops devoted to nonlinear analysis in a wide sense,
- publishing the LECTURE NOTES IN NONLINEAR ANALYSIS series,
- supporting mathematically talented young people.
The center activities are supported by the Scientific Council appointed by Rector of Nicolaus Copernicus University for the time of three years.
TMNA among the best
The journal Topological Methods in Nonlinear Analysis, published by the Center, is once again among the best journals published by Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun according to the SCImago Scientific Journal Ranking. More about journals published at UMK can be found here.
Combinatorial Topological Dynamics Workshop
A Combinatorial Topological Dynamics workshop will be held May 26-30, 2025, at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, on the potential relationship between topological data analysis and topological dynamics. There will be several well-known speakers, in particular Herbert Edelsbrunner and Thomas Wanner (see attached poster for details). Here is the link to the website:
https://cotodyn.matinf.uj.edu.pl/
The organizers have some funds to partially cover the costs for doctoral and master's students, see for details. Of course the workshop is for all interested, but the number of places is limited.

Tobias Weth - New Editor-in-Chief of TMNA
We would like to inform you of a recent change in editorial leadership of TMNA. Professor Jean Mawhin, who previously served as Editor-in-Chief, has resigned from the position. It is challenging to express our gratitude to Professor Mawhin for his many years of dedication and significant contributions to TMNA. We are convinced that thanks to Professor Mawhin, the past 20 years have been a prosperous time for our journal.
We are pleased to announce that Professor Tobias Weth from Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, has accepted the role of the new Editor-in-Chief of TMNA. His research interests and substantial scientific contributions include linear and nonlinear PDE, variational, topological, and geometric methods in nonlinear analysis, nonlocal operators and associated boundary value problems, local and nonlocal geometric variational problems, symmetry, and symmetry breaking of solutions to nonlinear boundary value problems.
We appreciate Professor Mawhin's contributions and welcome Professor Weth to the new role of Editor-in-Chief of our journal. We look forward to continued success under his guidance.
Winners of the second edition of the Schauder Prize competition
In the second edition of the competition for the Juliusz Schauder Prize for young mathematicians the Prize has been awrded to Bartosz Bieganowski (Warsaw University, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń) for achievements in studying variational methods and their applications to semilinear partial differential equations. Moreover, two distinctions have also been awarded: to Wojciech Górny (Universität Wien) and to Jakub Skrzeczkowski (Warsaw University). More information may be found at the Schauder Prize website.
